Child I Teens I Parents
Psychotherapy can help your child or teenager learn how to express thoughts and feelings in new ways. I strive to obtain a holistic sense of your child's unique personality and needs through a thoughtful and careful understanding of where they are in their development. I respect different family compositions, and draw on your expertise as a parent to move the treatment forward. Through this partnership, we can help your child understand their challenges, improve their relationships and build a strong, healthy identity.
Along with a Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy from Mercy College, I also completed advanced postgraduate training in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy at IPTAR (Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research). I help treat behavioral challenges at home and/or school, anxiety, trouble with separation and depression.
Play Therapy
It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality. It is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self - D.W Winnicott
Children communicate differently from adults, and their language involves play. Play Therapy is an effective therapeutic method that helps children symbolize their emotions and allows them to share their internal worlds. By learning to express themselves through drawings and playing, it helps children understand themselves better and put into words what was previously acted out. Playing also provides children with a sense of control and mastery, thereby improving their self esteem.
